The Rune Dad

Runic Wisdom for the Modern Mind

Inguz ᛜ: The Desire to Thrive

Well folks, Inguz ᛜ has appeared for the 2nd time in 3 days. That’s probably a message to me that I need to take to heart what I’m writing. For those of you who haven’t read my first post on Inguz, it’s the rune for the creation process (strategy, drafting, and planning) that culminates into a feeling of completion.

As I’m looking for a new job, this is signaling to me that I’m not thinking enough about the end goal of a job search: the relief and satisfaction of my effort turned to results. I’m of the school that if something is met with obstacles, it’s not for you. What we desire should be obtained easily and effortlessly. But Inguz is challenging that for me. I’m learning that I’m denying myself the feeling of jubilation and accomplishment. I need to flip my mindset to focus on the rush of everything coming together in success.

Think of your own lives. Often the things we put off are challenging, but when accomplished, it’s like the weight of the world has been lifted from your shoulders.

Lately, I’ve also been thinking a lot about will: the will of God, my higher-self, the universe, etc. and submitting myself to this will. What does that look like? I admittedly have a very strong reaction against such will as I believe ardently in freewill. Well, Inguz represents the process of bringing something to seed and life: to thrive. Maybe the Universe’s will for each one of us is to simply thrive. Create, purge, repurpose, improve. Just as the Earth and her cycles lay the way for growth, culling and regrowth, so must we also thrive in the same way. This is also the essence of Inguz.

Are you thriving? What has been nagging you from the back of your mind? Is there something that keeps calling you back to just do it? You know it will bring you satisfaction once obtained, but the process is arduous. How can you just start it with one baby step at a time?

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the pain an endeavor will take, but let’s all learn to focus on the exhilaration of completion.
