The Rune Dad

Runic Wisdom for the Modern Mind

About

I started this blog as a platform to share the wisdom I’ve gained from studying and understanding the runes. I have been continually amazed by the insights that the runes reveal through their subtle teachings.

As indicated by the blog’s title, I am a husband and father of three children. As such, there’s probably more than a bit of dad humor woven in. Bear with me. While I am originally from Dallas, I have also lived abroad with my wife and kids. My family follows a secular lifestyle, and that secular essence is what I aim to preserve in this blog.

Runes have gotten an interesting (and sometimes menacing) rep over the years. I do not pretend to be a runologist (or a psychic for that matter). I’m here to help take away that stigma and bring them into the modern world. Their teachings are pertinent and allow us to better dissect the complex world around us. Eventually, I’ll get into their origins, both historically and through the Norse mythology that surrounds them. I will probably use the name of the associated gods and goddesses, and I may reference the Universe or God. Please plug in names as you feel comfortable.

Here’s my routine: each day, I choose a rune to concentrate on. I enjoy a morning stroll, and focus on what new lessons may come to mind from their meanings and imagery. The musings shared in this blog stem from these meditations.

For me, the runes go much further than reading them out of a bag; they manifest themselves in your life. You’ll be able to recognize a situation and think, “that’s _____ rune.” What does that rune teach you? What is the guidance of that rune? What situation is clearly prevalent in your life right now and which rune corresponds to that? Understanding the runes will guide you in whatever situation life throws at you towards the right outcome.

For those new to runes, I hope that my straightforward approach will help demystify them and give fresh perspectives. If you are already familiar with runes, consider these writings as my personal reflections and interpretations of these ancient symbols. My aspiration is that they will inspire you as they have inspired me.

Please comment and share as you like. I would love to know about your own experiences, as I’m sure others would, too. Please be respectful (the All-Father is watching). You can also reach me at erik@therunedad.com
