Perthro ᛈ: Too Much of a Good Thing

Runes always provide balance. And while I discussed the positive aspects of play, it also comes with a downside.

There’s an aspect of Perthro ᛈ that demands reflection. Are you being careless? What vices are you entertaining? Are you letting frivolous activities take over your goals?

Sometimes, when things aren’t going the way we’d like, we also need to take a look at where we put our energy. Is it in the right place? While lightening up is a key aspect of Perthro, a lack of discipline has the opposite effect. There’s a slippery slope that, once treaded down, can quickly turn into a mud slide.

I am in a season of my life that requires discipline, and I’ve, so far, done a good job of maintaining it. But I’ve also caught myself being a little too lax, once foreseeing the downstream implications of late dinners and too much Netflix—too much chill. And it’s time to wrangle that back in. While I appreciated the introduction of fun, I’m reminded that there is always a balance towards achievements.

What are you allowing into your life that, when indulged, may not be for your best? Is there a way to monitor it more closely? What are you gambling with? Are you reasoning with yourself? “Just one more can’t hurt…”

Make peace with it. Give thanks for what it is because it’s a sign of enjoyment and pleasure. If it doesn’t do harm, use it as a tool for reward. If it’s, unfortunately, harmful, thank it for what it helped you cope with and seek out other non-harmful ways of enjoyment. We all deserve fun, but we also deserve what we most desire. We need to allow ourselves to obtain it without sabotage.
